Margaux – 3rd Grand Cru Classé
Château Desmiral, a Third Grand Cru Classé in 1855, enjoys an exceptional location, on the edge of the famous “Route des Châteaux”. Behind a majestic pink marble portal, one can make out an elegant 17th century charterhouse and a typical Médoc vat room from the end of the 19th century.

In these buildings steeped in history, visitors will be able to admire an exceptional framework and will undoubtedly be impressed by the aesthetics of a recent wooden vat room.

Denis Lurton has been running Château Desmirail, a Third Grand Cru Classé since 1855, since the 1990s. Under his leadership, he has modernized the facilities and adapted the vineyard to meet contemporary expectations. He aims to produce wines that are enjoyable young or after aging, while respecting the elegance of Margaux wines.

The estate has a long history, dating back to 1741, with a name inherited from Jean-Baptiste Desmirail. Lurton took over management in 1992, succeeding his father Lucien Lurton, and continues to modernize and develop the estate. The vineyard is spread over three main areas in Margaux-Cantenac, Soussans and Arsac, with a total of 40 hectares.

The grape varieties cultivated include Cabernet-Sauvignon (50%), Merlot (40%), Cabernet-Franc and Petit Verdot (10% together). Sustainable viticulture is practiced, excluding chemical herbicides and insecticides, and the estate has been certified High Environmental Value since 2018.

Winemaking involves a rigorous selection of grapes, followed by fermentation and aging in barrels for one year. The wine is then blended and bottled. Desmirail produces several wines, the main one being Château Desmirail, accompanied by second wines such as Initial de Desmirail.

Denis Lurton and his wife Laurence plan to combine their passion for art and wine in the future. Margaux’s exceptional soil, composed of pebbles and sand, as well as a temperate climate, contribute to the quality of the grapes and, consequently, the wines produced.
