The history of this estate began in the 1970s, with one hectare of vines and fruit orchards. After first selling locally and to co-ops, the family began producing their own wines in 1979. Nowadays the estate, run by Yann Chave, the son of the founding generation, produces some of the most sought-after wines in the Crozes-Hermitage appellation.
The estate is managed by Yann Chave, who worked in finance until he decided to return to his passion for wine. After being poisoned by an insecticide, he found organic farming in the early 2000s. The estate was certified in 2007 and now boasts 20 hectares in the heart of the Crozes-Hermitage.
Winery notes:
TASTING
Colour: deep purple colour with a purple hue.
Nose: an expressive nose marked by black fruit, such as blackcurrant or cassis. A hint of mint may be observed when the wine is left to breathe.
Palate: the palate is rich and generous. Aromas of black fruit develop with intensity. Velvety tannins give this wine delicious fullness, with a hint of freshness on the finish.
PAIRING
Young pan-roasted pigeon served with buttered Savoy cabbage, pan-fried rump steak with mashed potato, shavings of mature Mimolette cheese.
MATURING
May be enjoyed as of now, but we advise leaving it to cellar mature for 5 to 10 years.
YANN CHAVE
This has been a rather overlooked domaine for many years. But it has been completely revitalised by one of the best young men to appear in the northern Rhone in the past dozen years, Yann Chave.
