Grape: Agiorgitiko
Place: Peloponnese, Greece
The most important grape of the Neméa PDO, Agiorgitiko (ah-your-YEE-tee-koh) is a bit of a chameleon, able to produce soft, fruity rosés, stunning dessert wines, and smooth, deep reds. This example from Lafazanis is a full-bodied and smooth red with notes of freshly picked red berry and plum with distinct undertones of black licorice and ground nutmeg.
Pairings: loukaniko (a Greek country-style sausage), grilled lamb chops, and chicken souvlaki
