Grapes: Dolcetto 85%, Nebbiolo 15%
Place: Piedmont, Italy
First released in 1969, this is perhaps the most historical and genuine wine made with indigenous Piedmontese grapes. The addition of Nebbiolo and a little wood ageing, softens and adds elegance to the structure and complexity of Dolcetto. Notes of blueberries and plums with hints of dried herbs and sun baked earth, cherry and fresh redcurrants. There are also hints of spice, coffee, bitter chocolate and some complex savoury notes. Elegant aromas lead to a palate with concentration and length, giving it surprising ageing potential. Drink now or hold up to 10 years
Pairings: gnocchi with tomato sauce, robust pasta dishes, aged cheese and grilled meats
