In its Top 100 Wines 2025 list, Vinous named Lukas van Loggerenberg’s ‘Graft’ Syrah 2024 (98 points) the number 2 wine in the world. This top 100 list was whittled down from more than 35,000 reviews, which makes Lukas’ standing an even more impressive triumph.

Lucid, limpid, cherry red and a wine in which you can almost see and feel the ocean. Clear-cut notes of raspberry and violet with a tense, crisp bouquet betraying notes of white pepper and fine earth. The move to greater proportions of concrete continues, this year to the tune of 82%, the remainder in second fill French barrique. A steep, (cold) southeast facing slope at 300m, Lukas aims for a Syrah style that blends Cote Rotie with his beloved Polkadraii Hills. Fermented with 100% whole cluster, this is one of South Africa’s most consistently brilliant Syrahs
