YUKON SINGLE MALT TWO BREWERS RELEASE 38

Release 38 is a Peated single malt, the youngest component of which is 10 years old. Bottled at 43%, it is exciting to see the age statement on these Two Brewers releases creeping up.The whisky was matured in a mix of virgin, first fill ex-Bourbon, and second fill ex-Bourbon.

Blending Notes

“The base of this whisky was really three barrels of 11 year old 100% peated whisky we had particularly enjoyed during sampling. It had a very classic peat smoke profile but also a really mature backbone of oak and even a measure of banana custard that was really intriguing. A couple of younger and lighter whiskies were used to buoy those flavours and give them enough space to shine. Peat is still the dominant flavour in this whisky but it’s balanced. The whisky is 71% peated but I’d say it drinks like less than that just because it’s being balanced out a bit.”

Barrelling Info

“Smallest portion of this blend was a blend of peated whisky that had seen mostly bourbon barrels with a bit of new oak mixed in. Then some wheat whisky that was in new barrels for 5 years then second fill bourbon for 5 years. Finally the largest portion of the blend is a mash from 2013 that had been sitting in the same virgin oak barrels for 11 years.”
