CASCINA PENNA-CURRADO BARBERA D’ALBA

The love of Barbera shines through in the glass. If you’re looking for an example of just what Barbera is capable, Elena & Luca’s 1st release shows just that. The wisdom of decades of experience at the helm of Vietti shines. Just as with Vietti’s Dolcettos and Barberas, the élévage is clever. Luca and Elena’s experience making whole bunch wines with the support of Jeremy Seyess is clear in the glass. A complex perfume of floral elements dancing over quality fruit complexed with earth, spiced and savoury pops. The fruit is well developed, nothing raw, primary or reduced here. The mouthfeel is fine and long with just the right amount of cleansing grip. This is very good. A complete wine.

Luca and Elena have always been particularly invested in Barbera d’Alba as they were among the first to invest in it seriously. They believe strongly in the potential of this grape in communicating what the Langhe has to offer to a wide audience. The Carrà site is in the San Sebastiano area of Municipality of Monforte, with a particularly great natural biodiversity. Grapes come from predominantly from two parcels; one planted in 1965 and another in 2000. The wine is vinified partially whole cluster and aged in botti making it rich and concentrated but not too ripe.
