Arak Baladi is a traditional Mediterranean spirit distilled with aniseed. It is the inspiration of Hell’s Basement Brewery’s founding partner, Faysal Dlikan. Part of what sets Arak Baladi apart is that we are using a thousand year old recipe and when blended with water it becomes milky (due to the oils from the anise seed). This tradition is known as “Lion’s Milk”. Distilled with the best aniseed grown in the mountains of Syria and quality, locally sourced Canadian ingredients give this traditional beverage a local twist. We’ve worked with Righand Distillery in Nisku, Alberta to produce a high quality product using an ancient recipe and modern techniques!
