Pierre Péters, one of Champagne’s most renowned growers, produces mostly Blanc de Blancs champagnes, which are rated as some of the finest produced in the region. The Domaine is based in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger consisting of 82 plots over nearly 20 hectares of sustainably-managed vineyards, sixteen of which lie within the Côte des Blancs, primarily in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, as well as the other prized villages of Avize, Cramant, Oger and Vertus. Sixth-generation owner, Rodolphe Péters took over the running of the family estate from his father, François in 2008, having been involved in the assemblage since 2000. He initiated the house’s ‘perpetual reserve’ of reserve wines in the late 1990s. A graduate in oenology and business, Rodolphe believes that “a good winemaker must listen to his raw materials,” practising minimal intervention both the winery and the vineyards.
The code associated with each edition of these cuvées is in reference to the artist that Victor deeply admires and parodied (TB for Tim Burton). This is the fourth edition of the new Series of the now iconic cuvee L’Etonnant Monsieur Victor
Weather: The 2018 year started cold particularly February with some snowfall. By April the sunshine emerged leading to flowering at the end of May, some 10 days ahead of the 10 year average. Summer was hot and mostly dry with harvest starting on 20th August and lasted some 4 weeks. The lower night time temperatures during summer helped preserve the grapes natural acidity. In general all grapes performed well, with lots of forward fruit and most champagne will have ok acidity, not racy, not soft. Becoming a new benchmark for the Champagne region in terms of the heat, drought and sunshine levels!

Tasting Note: Brilliant gold in appearance, the cuvee has a very fine mousse and a persistent ribbon of bubbles. The nose is characterized by a mixture of rich, yellow fruit and acacia flower that evolve to give notes of saffron, citrus rind and hazelnut in the glass. The palate is dense yet smooth with a wonderful dimension of flavor, marrying layers of sweet spices, grapefruit, Mirabelle plum and fresh hazelnut.
